The curriculum at Claflin University in the School of Business is challenging; however, we believe that you are ready for the challenge. You will explore subjects in greater depth than you did in high school; you can choose your own courses and class schedule with the assistance of your academic advisor who is there to guide and to support your academic journey. As you move from one year to the next the courses will become more intense and focused in your area of specialization. Also, all students have to produce a capstone project (e.g., research thesis paper).

Accounting: This concentration is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of accounting principles and applications for ethical decision making. It meets the needs of students who wish to take the CPA examination in the state of South Carolina or to pursue graduate studies. It also prepares students who wish to pursue a career in private accounting.

Upon completion of the curriculum for Business Administration with a concentration in accounting, a student should be able to
大发注册入口understand the nature and role of accounting in providing useful and reliable information that is helpful in making ethical decisions about the deployment, use and sustainability of resources in business and non- business entities in the economy;
大发注册入口comprehend and apply generally accepted accounting principles, concepts, and methodologies, and receive working knowledge of international financial reporting standards;
understand the use of accounting information for managerial decision making with a planning and control focus;
pursue further studies in preparation for the CPA examination and practice in the field of public accounting; and
pursue graduate studies and/or professional certifications for careers in private accounting (industry).
Finance:大发注册入口 This concentration prepares students for careers, graduate studies and certifications in corporate finance, investment finance and institutional finance. Students receive an in-depth understanding of financial management principles and their applications to business decisions. Particular emphasis is placed on developing analytical skills, use of technology and understanding of the complex financial markets in the global economy.

大发注册入口Upon completion of the curriculum for Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance, a student should be able to
- Understand the role of finance in the operations of a business organization;
- Understand the concept of time value of money and its applications in financial decisions;
- Comprehend the functioning of financial markets and pricing of financial equity and debt instruments
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of financial managers at various levels
- Pursue certifications in finance professions
- Develop the analytical skills and the ability to use computer technology to make complex financial decisions for multinational business entities; and
- Pursue graduate studies in fields of finance.
Student Opportunities and Experience
The School of Business provides opportunities for business students to have international study and cultural experiences by allowing students to travel to places like India, London, Puerto Rico and various other destinations while they are in undergraduate or graduate business programs.
During the spring semester of each year students have the opportunity to present research that they have conducted in the area of business or cross-disciplinary research with other students in varying majors.
Internships and Corporate Visits
Business students have internship and corporate visitation opportunities from their freshman to their senior year at Claflin University. Many of our students have intern at BMW, Wells Fargo, Santee Cooper, the United States Department of Energy and more.
Careers and Outcomes
Business careers take shape in many sectors, including Education, Government, Private Business and Retail. Careers in business administration share similar required skills, such as the ability to work as a part of a team and the ability to be organized, make decisions and take responsibility. Also, computer skills are very important.
大发注册入口Students entering the School of Business must meet the standards prescribed by Claflin University for selecting a major. Students may apply for admission to the School of Business in the beginning of their junior year. To be accepted into the program, a student must have earned a minimum grade of at least a “C” in each of the following business courses taken through the sophomore year: Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Business Communication, Principles of Management and Principles of Marketing.
A grade of “C” or higher is required in all business courses. In addition, students must pass the School of Business Exit Examination, and fulfill the Honors Thesis or Senior Project requirement.
