Plenary session on E-Learning by Dr. Robbie Melton, Associate Vice President, Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN

Panel proposals and paper abstracts are invited on best practices in teaching with a focus on digital literacies, access, and equity. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit papers. Abstracts are limited to a maximum of 250 words. Brief bios of 175 words are required. Electronic submissions are requested. Presentations should be limited to 15 minutes. Panels are limited to four (4) presenters per panel. Papers and panels are solicited on:

  • Tensions between access and safety in the age of Covid 19
  • The role of language arts in social justice 
  • Hybrid teaching, technology, and faculty workload
  • Models for international collaborations between either students or faculty
  • New ways to enhance STEM student literacies 
  • All aspects of studying and teaching literature (including World Literature and travel literature)
  • Creative writing/ Creative writing pedagogy
  • Composition pedagogy 
  • Teaching foreign languages

Abstracts are limited to a maximum of 250 words. Brief bios of 175 words are required. Electronic submissions are requested. Presentations should be limited to 15 minutes. Panels are limited to four (4) presenters per panel. Papers and panels are solicited on:

The registration fee for the conference is $35 for faculty members. The registration deadline is October 5, 2020. Online registration is required for all presenters.

Dr. Eric J. Paulson

Dr. Eric J. Paulson is associate dean of The Graduate College and professor in the Collegeof Education at Texas State University. Dr. Paulson’s research interests center on college reading in developmental education domains.  This includes readers’ deliberate and non-deliberate responses to texts and conceptualizations of literacy processes, utilizing approaches applied within a social-constructivist framework like eye movement research, miscue analysis, retrospective miscue analysis, and metaphor analysis. He has published three books and numerous articles in journals like Reading Research Quarterly, Journal of Developmental Education, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Research in the Teaching of English, Journal of College Reading & Learning, the International Journal of Qualitative Methods, and others.   He has taught in a variety of institutions in the United States and abroad, including community organizations, language institutes, community colleges, and research universities.  The focus of his faculty  position is the preparation of doctoral students as research scholars in the field of developmental education.

Dr. Robbie Melton

Dr. Robbie Melton, Associate Vice President for the SMART Global Technology InnovationCenter and Graduate Dean and tenured professor at Tennessee State University, serves as a global researcher and international consultant for Emerging IOE (“The Internet of Everything”) Smart Mobile Technology of mobile devices, smart phone-tablets, wearables, smart gadgets and tools, and mixed reality of VR and AR. She formerly served as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Emerging Technologies for the Tennessee Board of Regents and the primary developer and chief administrator for the system-wide Regents Online Degree Programs. Her tributes include: 2019 USDLA Hall of Fame, 2018, Distinguished Women of Legend, 2017 OLC Leadership, 2016, WCET Life Time Achievement, 2014 Top 30 Technologists, 2013 Apple Distinguished Educator, 2012 Top Fifty Technology Innovator; and 2012 WOW EdTechnology Awards. She was a featured speaker at the UNESCO Mobile Learning Symposium. She is known as an ‘Appologist, for her extensive research of best practices with mobile devices (smartphone, tablets, wearable, and the creation of a Mobile App Resource Center. Currently serving as the UNICEF Teacher Education Technology Trainers for the Country of Malawi (Africa) in the use of mobile devices with limited internet and power.
